Capturing Nature at Oxford Botanic Garden
18 July 2022

A day of Nature Printing presented by Zucker Art Books with live demonstrations, expert talks workshops and an exhibition.

To celebrate the launch of the book Capturing Nature, this event was a special opportunity to see a range of nature printing techniques brought to life as the marquee on the main lawn was transformed into a veritable printing studio.

The day included live demonstrations on early printing presses with Richard Lawrence, from the Bodleian Bibliographical Press and Pia Östlund, co-author of Capturing Nature (Zucker Art Books 2022). Visitors could learn cyanotype and lumen printing with photographer Julia Parks and John Whapham of Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London or take part in a collaborative nature printing book project with Bernhard List and Francesca Iurilli and Momo of Yummy Industries, a Swiss artist-collective.

The day also included talks on skeleton leaves and nature printing by botanist and bibliophile Harriet Rix; on nature printing and electricity by Adam Lowe of Factum Arte Madrid; and on the 19th century multimedia artist Richard Cockle Lucas by historian Harry Willis Fleming.

The event was part of the 400th anniversary celebrations of Oxford Botanic Gardens.
